Every company is different. I'd rather do the work so that the clueless person screening the resumes has at least something to go on, rather than not do it and risk missing opportunities in large companies.

My cover letter basically re-hashes their job requirements, and how I fit them.
Well crap, then I'm in a special pile for everywhere I go. No one can pronounce Luis or my last name for that matter.
