Plus it all comes down the alot of people still being homophobic. Anything that is seen to be detrimental to the overall well being on a unit is deemed bad. Until you have the knuckledusters in the infantry that don't have any issue with gays it's not going to change. You can't risk the negative outcome from it. Granted I think it's BS but it is what it is.

indeed. which gets me in trouble when we have PME's on "equal opportunity" and I have the urge to share my opinion with the SNCOs
 
Twice during my tours in Iraq there were Army women who got in trouble for running prostitution rings. Sometimes things just shouldn't be mixed. If you have dumb caged animals let them be among their own kind when they are sent out to kill. There are enough distractions already.

I think it's more about the homophobic redneck assholes who flock to the military en masse so they can shoot guns all day. Throwing an openly gay dude into that equation could cause a lot of problems, affect unit cohesion, etc.
