IT Budgets?

Then count how many machines you have, and divide by three. Now you have a three year plan to eliminate old shit, based on priority.
or if your boss is as tough to get money out of as mine is, divide it by five so you don't shock the shit out of him/her and end up with a more realistic number. five years is about how long it takes for a system to get replaced here.

32 computers, 3 grand a peice to replace, 3 year replacement plan, plan on 30k a year for workstations. add in another 10k for server room?

3k a piece? that's pretty steep!
we pay like 1k for a new dell optiplex with a 19" lcd

Thats where non-profit agencies come in...

please???

Heh working with a non-profit that relies solely on donations of individuals can present interesting challenges when it comes to an IT budget.

Basically, its dictated by the rainy-day fund, or if we get enough funding from a donor dedicated to do a big IT project. Just recently we got a big donation to do a training center for the residents, to the tune of 50K... It happens maybe once a year we get that.

Its too bad those things are usually tied to something, but hey we do what we can.

we get bent over for dell laptops with docking stations, 19" lcd, bag, etc.

40k for 32 people isn't bad though... if bringing in the computers replaced 4 admin assistants, then you're still way ahead.

edit: then again, you gotta cover the cost of that IT guy too. ;)

for laptops we use dell lats and that adds another $500 on the price over an opti desktop
