Smoking a 7 lb turkey breast. Brined for about 16 hrs. in salt, water, spices, date syrup and a few shots of whiskey. No nitrates - fuck that. Gonna give it 4 hours in the smoker., low and slow. Didn't want to stay up quite that late but didn't want to ruin with too much brining.3.5 hours to go. FFS. Maybe I'll call in sick - I got major issues with that place anyway.

Take the day, Eddie.
Make a 3 day weekend out of it.
Then add Monday. Let things cool out.

i’m slowly converting my family ...

we currently do Meatless Mondays (the kiddo isn’t a fan) and it’s been fun coming up with ideas.. ALSO, our children visit their dad/mom every other weekend so we have had meatless kid free weekends too when they are gone

anyone else here trying to slowly phase it out or at least slow it down

I’m attempting to slow it down. I try to do 2-4 meatless meals a week. The oldest isn’t on board but the rest don’t care.

I don't make a point of doing meatless food, but I'd say about 1/4 of what I eat is meatless.

I bought a giant ass bag of frozen falafels from a middle eastern food market, and had falafel wraps for supper. Not vegan (sauce was a yogurt/mint thing I threw together) but it could be easily made vegan by switching the sauce to something else.

Also made a giant batch of yogurt in the instant pot that I'm still working on. Granola + fruit + yogurt for breakfast this morning. Good shit.

I haven't had meat in about two years, I think. The family went cold turkey with me. Except the kids, we phased them out of dairy. We eat a lot of beans and nuts.

Our staple meals include a starch (rice, potato, quinoa, cuscus, sweet potato, bread) Bean (pinto, black, chick pea, lentil, kidney, navy) veggies (any veggies) and leafy greens (usually kale or spinach). Pick one of each, throw it in a bowl topped with your favorite sauce. I really love tahini sauce. I mix tahini, soy sauce, maple syrup, and a small amount of yellow mustard, and vinegar if it needs to be thinner and tangy.

Black Bean burgers are da bomb. Lots of ways to cook those.

I make this awesome chick pea scramble with squash onions, bell pepper, kale, nutritional yeast, veggie broth, tumeric, cumin, chilli powder. And olive oil if I'm feeling bad, but I can't remember the last time I bought oil of any kind. Put it on rice.

Shepard's pie, just sub the beef for lentils. That works with a lot of dishes.

Oatmeal, dash of salt, peanut butter, banana or apple, sprinkle cinnamon.

Oh and hemp seeds can be put on almost anything. Their flavor is mild and almost cheesy but they add a lot of nutrition.

Cashews can be used to make cheesy sauces. People swear by raw cashews but if you boil ones that have already been roasted it's better imo.

Coconut milk (in the can, not the cow's milk substitute) can be added to just about anything for a creamy texture.

@Maureen take B12 and D3. Whether you eat meat or not those are important. And keep in mind that you can take too much D3 but you probably won't.

Contemplating picking up a dozen or so chicks this spring to rebuild the flock. That's about the right amount to end up with all the fresh eggs I want and be able to send a few roosters to freezer camp this summer.

I had the impossible burger the other day. Could not tell the difference from a normal burger. Except it didnt make me choke like beef does these days.

That said, i didnt like it, not cause the impossible part, but just because i dont like fast food burgers, and it tasted just like one

I want to get over and try one, but the only place near me that serves it tries to dress it up with all kinds of weird shit, probably to avoid the situation you described.
