Is the "shock horror" movie trend ever going to end?

I don't watch scary movies. My sentiment is "Real life is scary enough, why PAY!!! to have someone scare me? Watch the 6 o'clock news. It's scary enough for me."

to the original post: I think that along with video games, and the recent criticisms of hip hop music (trips me out that critics don't mention the violence and mysogyny and drugs of ROCK songs), it desensitizes people (mostly children who grow up on this shit) to violence and gore somehow making them believe this shit is "okay"<<<sorry for the run on sentence. Yes, parents should educate their children (but many don't). Yes, it's "entertainment". But KIDS often can't differentiate.

Me too.

Hitchcock used to sit down with a stack of plain paper and literally draw every camera shot for the entire film. Everything you saw on film was virtually sketched out by 'Hitch' before the filming started.

It explains the beauty in every angle and cut.

The shower scene in Psycho is the perfect example of each nuance of the attack, as were the birds picking at Tippi Hendren's hair as she crossed the street in The Birds.

or just have Atom's bike break down at the crack gas station on central. Oh and then have some 350 pound line backer looking guy run up to you and scare you half to death. Only to find out he is a super nice gigantor who wants to lift the bike into a truck by himself. Actually, the crazy looking crackheads were super nice to us and helped us find tie downs, lol

However.... IMHO, uberfans of gore flicks are messed up. Gaining pleasure out of watching that kinda stuff is AS f'd up to me as people who enjoy watching child porn. Dunno why people find it acceptable (and pleasurable) to watch people getting mutilated, but are then appald by child molesters.

I liked all of those and I'm not a sick wacko or a child molester. Though it's not the gore, per-say, that I enjoy, it's the special effects behind them. Especially when they are done very well and realistic, it amazes me.

Palahniuk is an amazing writer. I read Guts when it was first published in Playboy. You can't unread stuff like that.

Kinda I guess. It just seems to me like there are healthier ways of finding pleasure than watching people get ripped apart, just as there are healthier ways of getting sexual gratification that doesn't victimize children.

One can enjoy a good scare or special effects without it being a realistic portral of someone dying a horrible death.

I don't enjoy the genre as a whole. I liked the Friday the 13th series when I was a kid, but this shit doesnt' appeal to me anymore. Saw had a neat twist, but the dialogue and acting was terrible. Saw 2 & 3 sucked. Hostel sucked, though not very gorey. M. Night Shamadamawingdong sucks. These movies are cranked out for teeny boppers, imo. I'll stick to biased documentaries on THC.

(BTW, I just realized that THC's abbreviation is the same as pot's)

I know when I walk out of that theater or turn off my DVD player that those actors went home happy and paid and alive. It's not like I'm watching it happen in a back alley IRL.

Same goes for games like Manhunt, where I squeel with glee when after 10 attempts I finally sneak up behind that bastard and gut him like a fish with a broken peice of glass, stab him in the eye, and then slit his throat. There's no way in hell that I'd ever do that to anyone for reals, nor would I ever get an ounce of pleasure out of it. It's sickening to think of someone that would do that to another human being. I dunno, to me there is no grey area, no games-overlapping-reality, ala: GTA Made me Jack a Car and Beat a Hooker. I have a very distinct realization of what is real and what is fake/game, and therefore I can enjoy watching/playing that stuff without it affecting me personally.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go home and skull-fuck my neighbor's dog that I skinned alive last night.
