The thing abput the nfl allowing players to protest in this way at the games--will they draw a line? Is grabbing your crotch during the national anthem ok? Turning your back on the anthem? Mooning the flag?

I don't agree with the anthem protests either.

But, the NFL will probably never disapprove of the protests for fear of losing viewers unless it turns out the protests are directly effecting the bottom line.

Also, the players who are protesting are only hurting themselves if it turns out to be true ratings are down because of the protests. Lower ratings equals less money from the networks broadcasting these games which equals less money for the players.

Like I said in my original post - I think Kaepernick was just pouting and acting out. Sure, he may actually care about the issues he has addressed, but I don't think that was his primary motivation.

Are we really that jingoistic that dissent during one of the most perfunctory ceremonies imaginable is unacceptable?

I don't give a shit what they do.

It's like the "under god" agitators with regard to the pledge of allegiance. By the time you're old enough to have an informed opinion, you're not in a situation where you have to say it every day anymore. I just tell my kids to say "under Dog" if it bothers them to plead to the Sky Fairy, because it ends up with the same number of syllables, and that's Good Enough™.
