Possibly. With the way people are now, sure. But you look at the type of people who trudged off to WW2, I can see that there is hope for good people to make their way up. I'm not saying a generalization that all the allied warriors in WW2 were good, but the overall mindset of heading off to a foreign land to fight a war against evil (mindset of the day) isn't dead. It's just not in existence in a soft first world culture.
