Housing Costs

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of things that I miss about Ohio. Trying to sell a house where we lived is tough though.

where did you guys live? the market here seems to have died hard. took a house down the street months to sell, and another is still on the market.

Housing bubble. The one that everyone expects to burst at some point. (for the past 15 years)

Well the market is down here, what isn't down is property taxes. If you go far enough north that houses are more reasonable, you're going to pay 6K+ in property taxes. That really adds up

if the market is down enough can't you have your ppty value reassessed to lower your taxes?

I'm not sure how that works, I do know some areas around here have abnormally high taxes because they're comparatively rural areas which need a boost for their schools and stuff. There's one part of that town where a 250k house will have 7k+ taxes

 This is the reason I don't have a house yet.

BTW, everyone interested in houses, check out this site: www.zillow.com

It gives suggested appraisal prices of houses and mashes that up with M$ Virtual Earth. It also includes selling prices and property taxes. Awesome info.

We are going to be selling our townhouse and building a house on 1/4 acre for appx 40-60k less then what we'll hopefully get out of the townhouse. Yea rural Utah!

I have nothing to show when I sell a house for less than initial price + repairs + interest, either.

Very few people ever get to that point.

If you rent and put the difference from renting and buying into a savings account, you will have interest saved up as the difference.

:wtf: my first house we doubled our money, and haven't lost money on selling any other house since

I was talking with a buddy of mine last night. His house has been on the market since August. It's killing him. He's already in his new house... has been for months.
