ahh... I'd guess that would put a damper on it for me too. Get yourself some snow tires then. I hear Michelin Arctic Alpins are great for snow and ice, some say better than blizzaks.
studs are illegal in IL. I think this year I might try the Alpins, I've got a seperate set of wheels for the summer now so I think it might be nice to have a set of snow tires.
