At that time it was actually easier than getting into an ivy. I know it's way harder now cause I've talked to mids in Annapolis and they have like three pages of extra curriculars and a startup. VMI or the Citadel were the super selective ones back in the day.

I played three varsity sports and Im good at taking tests. It's not really rocket science.

I didn't equate "Officer" with manager at the time, I wouldve probably hated it. My brother is a WO and gets to do cool shit and basically outranks/isnt in the chain of command of everyone.

Most of my experience is with Air Force officers, but I've dealt with my fair share of Navy officers, and almost to a man, the only competent officers I ever worked with were ones that came up through NCO ranks.
