I figure someone might know this since Linksys routers are pretty universal. There's an option on just about every Linksys router to save a config file from that router to your desktop. I did this and tried to read the file in Notepad and it looks like a bunch of random, non-letter characters. Anyone know if you can decode this crap to be able to read the variables its setting?

you need the linksys config reader. Downloadable at their website under the tech support area.

Did you try emailing someone at linksys?
Yeah, they basically told me to eat a turd.

Interesting note though : of the 2 or 3 other major 3rd party firmwares for Linksys routers that are supposedly better than the stock firmware, they all allow you to telnet into the box and get the pppoe password.

If it wasn't for this post I would have closed Mr. Admins thread.

...but he could reopen it, why do I try? :fly:

that's pretty sweet, linkage? I've got a linksys router...

OH, you might try opening up the text in vi or some other thing like visual studio... Perhaps notepad just isn't reading the programming language correctly. You don't happen to know what language it is, do you? I'm a C programmer and if it's in C, I'd be interested in seeing it as my router has no option to dump configs to the workstation.

Sveasoft firmwares : http://www.sveasoft.com/ is the best, but they charge a $20 yearly fee. They do all sorts of routers, not just Linksys.

EWRT : http://www.portless.net/menu/ewrt/
HyperWRT : http://www.hyperdrive.be/hyperwrt/
Wifi-box : https://sourceforge.net/projects/wifi-box/

If you're really ambitious, Linksys GPL'ed router firmware : http://www.linksys.com/support/gpl.asp You could write your own.

wtf Judging by the name I thought this would be a swedish company. "Svea rike" is a really old version of "Sweden".
