Ontopic Health Thread: post your AIDS, diseases and infekshunz here.

I had a psychiatric aapointment right after my interview today. Aside from all the normal suicide assessments, kinda threw me for a loop with the "have you ever assaulted anyone"... I mean, yes, but it was for work so no? THat entire track of questioning was odd.

So I was reading up on my meds and there was one I've never really reviewed the literature for because it seemed rather innocuous (increases potassium retention.) First paragraph " and as a part of feminizing hormone therapy in trans women.[4][22][23] It is a steroid that blocks the effects of the hormones aldosterone and testosterone and has some estrogen-like effects"

While I have run out of it before and got EXTREMELY painful cramps from hypokalemia... I don't wonder if there may be an alternative...

So anyway I was taking my urine test and Im in the stall and dude hands me the cup and says fill it. Then starts writing on his clipboard so I just whip it out rather and start going. Then he shuts the door rather violently. I guess they dont observe anymore?

So, turns out when you are sedentary, have a high stress job, and dont bother with fitness you get fat.

Only time I see my weight is when i go see the doc. I'm up 20lbs this years to 190. I'm 5'11 so that aint exactly ok.

Starting tracking my food today, today was a thoughtful day, but I didnt change much and im at around a 700 calorie deficit, so if i can keep that up I should be able to get healthy again.

I dont drink soda, no chips/junkfood/etc, dont drink alcohol, fried foods are rare, so my diet is pretty good, but i'll chop down portion sizes as needed, and be very conscious of my choices. No dessert, no snacks for a while until I get the hang of how much im eating.

Strange thing is, I didnt even notice. All my pants and shirts still fit fine, I havent noticed any major pudginess, although i certainly dont have a 6-pack.

Here goes nothin, need to be healthy.

26 days later, im down 24 lbs. I'm probably burning up a substantial amount of muscle, which is not great. I'm losing far faster than I expected to. Just religiously tracking every gram i eat with Cronometer and targeting 1200 a day. I've had three days around 1300 in that period, and none over 1400. For my height and weight, thats running about a 1000 calorie deficit.

Ill get down to 150, then start bringing it back up so i dont starve to death and bringing in exercise.

No ill effects thus far, good energy, good sleep. If I have a day below 1000 though, it doesnt work, i wake up hungry during the night.

Im exactly your height and 185-200 (water weight varies wildly), but I'm assessed as clinically malnourished. Supposed to be eating 2300 kcals a day and 1.5g protein/kg  (too expensive for me lol)

You probably know this but bulky food like salad and plenty of fluid will make you less hungry with almost no calories. I drink ALOT of green tea.

Why would you want to be 150? That’s way too low for your height.

I guess. My husband is an inch shorter and his sweet spot is 165-170. 150 just seems way too skinny. I was at 150 and everything says I shouldn’t bother losing weight, I was a healthy range and I’m a few inches shorter than you.

It's well known that the classic BMI is skewed, taller people always score higher and shorter people tend to score lower. I mean it was made in the 19th century.

They use waist to height and the pinchy test for composition when they want a more accurate picture. Something like every inch over 40 for men is increasingly unhealthy.

Who was the bass head that also always attempted to mansplain everything? I imagine he and @ZRH could create a 100 page thread pretty quickly.
