Ontopic Health Thread: post your AIDS, diseases and infekshunz here.

I had one while on a family vacation from Nebraska to Oregon when I was 14. Had to go to a doctor no one knew but had an opening. He numbed the toe and took a scalpel and cut the toenail straight down the middle, parallel with the toe. Blood was pouring out into a metal bucket and the sound nearly made my mom pass out, and she had a strong stomach.

Then he, no shit, took a hot needle and burned holes into the remaining nail, using the holes like eyelets on a shoe and stitched it shut.

Gross AND awesome.

On mine he took a little scissors, stuck it under the nail all the way to the back. Cut a slice off the toenail, yanked it out with a pliers, then went in there with that narrow scraper/razor thing to get the roots.

Yeah, I watched the whole thing. He numbed it up real good with shots in the toe knuckle.
Good ol' family doc.

Nowadays they'd probably involve a half dozen different"specialists" and bill insurance for all kinds of different "lab tests" and $50000 later you got the same thing this guy did by himself in 45 minutes.

Had a couple ingrown toenail done as a teen. They just get in there with what amounts to a narrow scraper or razor and take the root off the end of the bone or whatever they're attached to.

Shirley you could DIY something like that. Like if you need to narrow the nail by 1/4", make a 1/4" wide tool.
If needed, I have 1/4" wide tool you can use.

 There is no need for all that! Go down the side of the nail!

Agreed! I had another one on the opposite foot and that’s what my regular doctor did.

My son had one awhile back and his doctor removed his entire toenail. That sucker was a source of fear for him for six months after, worrying it would get bumped or stepped on.

Diverticulitis flare up. Real bad. Gonna see if this probiotic and ibuprofen cocktail does the trick.
It's been a few years since I almost died. Yay!
Don't know about during a flare-up, but I think the conventional thinking is more fiber keeps those flare-ups away. My wife has it - we finally have a pretty fine-tuned fiber shake she has for breakfast 5 out of 7 days which she says really "does the job".

My best friend had a blood vessel burst in his brain stem today at 6am. By the time ambulance came he was unresponsive. He is sedated into a coma and it looks really bad.
He’s bleeding out of his nose and mouth every so often.
His girlfriend who’s also a super close friend of mine is distraught.

6 weeks ago something similar happened to my friends husband.

He is 39 yrs old and we are all here by his bedside. Waiting for neurologist but it doesn’t look good.

My heart is broken
