why don't we just not use the decimal system at all and convert everything to binary

it's only less precise if you choose to measure with less precision.
 
Deduct 32, then multiply by 5, then divide by 9

Sounds pretty precise to me. You must use Common Core math, which explains, why, well, everything about you is wrong.

That's not less precise, it's needless complaining.

Meters are about 3" longer than a yard, are they less "precise" because 3 meters can be anywhere from 3 to 4 yards?

Actually, what we have here is you misunderstanding significant figures.

7 degrees Celsius has one significant figure. 43 and 46 degrees Fahrenheit both have 2. If you want to be consistent in your application, 7 degrees Celsius is about 40 degrees Fahrenheit, both of which have 1 significant figure.
