I know someone who was a researcher at a place that focused on umbilical stem cell, so they pushed for a constitutional amendment to ban embrionic stem cell research in his state so that they wouldn't have to compete for grant money.

They pretended it was because they were a christian institution, but that wasn't what the president of the university said behind closed doors.

Any research institution that takes a moral stand against embrionic stem cell research does so for the same reason
