Good Cable Modem

Currently, we are leasing a Motorola Surfboard cable modem for $3/month from Comcast after our Office Connect USR Cable Modem (cost $50 in 2001) bit the dust. What is a good modem that is worth purchasing. At $3/month, it would take 2 years to make a $75 modem be worth the cost.

I rikey my SB5100, my old 4100 died from a lightning strike and Motorola replaced it fer the cost of shipping the old one back

Do these devices actually have features that you can compare against one another? I sorta figured they were more appliance than anything.

it's usually about throughput and reliability.
