Ontopic Games Thread of love

Why just the priest - hell, lets include a teacher, weird uncle/neighbor? And some weirdo who has a spare trailer and chicken's in his bathroom.:p "Rape - The NAMBLA Edition"
You are a sick man. IJNA

Pretty sure we can agree a game about rape would be a Bad Thing™.

Main point is if some controversy erupts over this game it'll come down to "free speech" and "but you gotta draw a line somewhere" with a dose of "it's just a game, it's not real".

Kicker is we live in a society that views murder as the most heinous of all offenses yet we already accept hundreds of games that very graphically depict, encourage, and reward that very thing, so there's really nowhere left to draw a line.

If people really believe the "it's just a game" thing they won't have any problem at all with games about rape seeing as they're OK with games about murder. Though if they have any heart at all they may indeed have a problem with it.

The "If they have any heart" part NEEDS to be instilled by parents & family at home. Every other area is being exploited using 1000 cuts.

Some people have argued that violent videogames affect people negatively for a long time while many others say no it's OK, it's just a game.
By that "logic" a game that encourages rape should be just fine. Hell why stop there? Why not make one that encourages molesting little boys? You could play the part of a priest.

We hold murder as the most serious offence one person can commit on another and there hundreds of games that reward that so fuck it, let the raping commence I guess.

Smh.
If violent video games affect people, why dont violent movies get a bad rap? You cant say that video games are aimed at kids, either. That rating system has been in effect almost as long as I've been playing.

Fair point but there are some differences.

Movie is a couple hours long and is viewed passively. You're not actively "playing" it. You're watching characters do things not making them do things. It's different type of experience.
That said a bunch of violent movies probably not the best thing to be subjecting their mind to either.

From my own experiences with kids and videogames I got this....

The vast majority of kids have some way of playing games rated for far above their age. Older siblings or relatives, friends with older siblings or relatives, parents who just don't care, or even play them with the kids, etc. It's not like there's somebody at the door checking ID's.

Becoming desensitized to violence is a real thing. You can't expose a young mind to hundreds of hours of interactive blood, gore, and violence and expect them to remain neutral. They're not machines. Biology and psychology doesn't allow them to go through that experience without effecting them somehow.

A lot of it comes down to moderation and time of exposure, which goes back to parents setting limits both on what games played and for how long. Far too many use it as an electronic babysitter. They know the kid's gonna stay parked staring at the screen for the next 6 hours so they don't have to pay attention and can just do whatever, probably stare at their own screen.

Some of these kids behavior with these things can only be described as addiction. And with parents like mentioned above at minimum allowing if not encouraging or even teaching addictive behavior.

As far as this rape game thing it's disgusting, but again, if murder is the worst and we're OK with interactive simulation of that......

I can guarantee younger kids will get their hands on it, just like they went about beating up hookers and murdering random people on the street playing their friends older brothers GTA.

Agreed.

No one's saying they can't make it (except that I think that computer generated child porn is illegal). Only that Steam can choose if they want to be party to its sales or not. As long as its legal, everyone is well within their rights.

I don't know this to be true but I'd be damn surprised if it's not and that is I bet there are porn videogames. I also bet some of those involve bondage and beating and various pain and/or humiliation fetishes. And of those I bet there are some where you can ignore a "safe word" and keep going, which would then be rape and assault with a weapon.

So a rape videogame may not actually be a new thing, just Steam as a popular company would make it more "mainstream"?

Anyways, I could see a lot of social backlash and a lot of groups making a lot of protest about such a game because of the subject matter. Even though the more serious offence of murder is totally accepted for the most part.

Tons of porn games already. You're right, this is just a more mainstream company thinking about it.
