The Chinese are already making oil out of coal for ~$30/barrel. And they, like the US, have HUGE coal reserves.

Actually Popular mechanics mentioned in an article that there was a study done about off shore wind platforms in the Atlantic. IIRC, they showed about 8 giant wind farms that were far enough apart to give a constant wind supply.

And fuck batteries, flywheel technology is almost there, if not already there.

we're working on building a windfarm in the atlantic off the coast of cape cod.

tidal generators are pretty damn cool. dunno about cost effectiveness of them though, problem with salt water is salt. maintenance might be a bitch.
