Ok this shit has to stop

http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=7934462

Way to go. Because no one uses natural gas to heat their homes, they depend on electricity to warm them. Having rolling outages BECAUSE of the cold is about the stupidest decision on earth. It's actually illegal for gas companies in Ohio to turn off service for late bill payments during the winter because they would be aiding in the death of people. These people ARE paying for the electric and they are getting turned off. My friend's Water heater for his pool stopped, freezing the pool water and possibly cracking his pool because of these rolling outages. And the outages included public schools as well as city lights and traffic signals. I witnessed one accident on the way to work today because of the light signals not working. This is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

doesn't this boil down to your fault since you work for ABB? if you made more efficient transformers they wouldn't be in this mess. I think you owe your friend a new pool

If the power companies actually used our equipment, it would be better. And if they lifted the ban on building nuke plants in the US, it wouldn't be an issue, either.

Some advanced notice would have been nice. And some control as to what went out as schools are still in session inthe dark and the traffic situation was right in the middle of rush hour. Could they have not issued these outages when people weren't home, like at 10am or something?

Makes no sense about his pool freezing and cracking.

My parents pool in Maine freezes every winter and it's just fine, and it's the liner style pool.

there's no way in hell there was any more than 1cm of ice on the top pool because it's only been cold for about 5 minutes there. gunite pools can crack from freezing though but it would take more than that.

more likely would be the pool filter cracking

A company wide email about a system being out was sent out yesterday.

Someone this morning decided to reply to all asking why he was getting that email and in the course of five minutes I've gotten twenty five responses saying either don't reply to all or un subscribe me. :waw:

Make that twenty six.

any scary moments?

i think some kid shit a pool one day. Otherwise, no. Having the boy with us, we obviously didn't go out to clubs or anything at night, just pretty much sat on the beach. I did get asked if I wanted to buy some blow though.
