According to the radio this morning, a newly discovered covid side effect could be erectile disfunction.
But being vaccinated significantly reduces the % chance of that happening.
There could be a sudden rush of anti vaxers looking to get vaxed
I saw a stat this morning that this January compared to last January more people caught covid this January but just over 500 have died this January and last January that number was in the thousands. Like 3 or 4 thousand deaths. It can definitely be argued that less people have died because more people are vaccinated but it will also add fuel to the fire for the anti vaccination crowd. "See! It's not that deadly anymore!" I just don't think there is anything out there that is going to inspire those people to get the jab at this point. Fuck 'em. It's on them now. I'm ready for things to go back to normal.

Yeah there's a lot of training etc. And yes you need qualifications.
Despite what these potatoes are telling you I got turned down for my first police job based ONLY on the fact I didn't have certain qualifications. That's probably the worst part is that it varies incredibly by department.

Is the qualification you lacked the "Shoot first ask questions later" attitude?

Shooting someone is like... soooooo much paperwork. At any job I'd imagine.

It was a directly relevant college degree (or military experience), and I didn't speak spanish which most departments push these days.

Yeah. Same as when I applied to Nasa. The only thing holding me back was that I wasn't qualified to be an astronaut.

What they are protesting is that unvaccinated truckers will be required to quarantine for two weeks after re-entering Canada
I have a client who's having the same issue. He's trying to raise funds for the video game he's making, but every time he leaves the country he's got to quarantine in a hotel for two weeks at his own expense.

Ma'am it sounds like you don't think I'm qualified to help people on the worst day of their lives.
That scenario sounds VERY much like I'd want someone who is qualified to do so.

Most my worst days have involved some form of doctor, or mental health specialist. I'd be kind of let down if the doctor I saw had nothing to qualify them for it. Qualifications and training exist for quite specific and logical reasons.

Sorry. There was more to what I was actually saying. I spent hundreds of dollars (and took days off work) to go through a recruitment process which I passed to be let down at the very last step because it would look bad to hire someone without credentials despite passing all the silly tests...

The truth is also that no amount of training will ever weed out bad actors. Evil isn't utilitarian.

Circling back to this, it is a fact that police departments will turn down those that are too intelligent and/or too educated. As far as I remember there is a Supreme Court decision backing their ability to do so (@august probably knows the one.)

It's not specifically about that. Police are exempt from equal opportunity hiring practices because they are part of the government. It's from NY requiring all newly hired officers to be under 35, and why they can administer polygraph tests.

Please explain this apparent concept of having too much education first.
I can't remember if I posted about it in here, but I got blocked and accused of being too "highly educated" by some local dingus in the neighborhood fb group because I used the words "conflating" and "succinctly" and "overt" as I attempted to help clear up a misunderstanding she was having. like, y'all know me & how I can get, but I wasn't even trying to fight with this walnut, I was trying to explain where she'd gotten her wires crossed and she lost her fucking mind and accused me of being aggressively intelligent at her

No, the NYPD literally has a max IQ cutoff.

They probably didn't want you because you think "helping people on the worst day of their lives" has anything to do with the job.

Being aggressively intelligent, what a concept.
