Down here there are plenty of places that say no mask no service. Lucky for me that has superseded the shirt and shoes requirement.

I dunno man. I'm pretty sure before this is 'over' many, many people are going to be tested multiple times. And in my mind, that's a good thing. Assuming we could ever get this under control, knowing a window greatly reduces contact tracing (be it official, or the person notifying friends/coworkers).

Even getting tested multiple times AFTER getting it once gives us good data. For example, right now we can say with a pretty high level of confidence that contracting the virus grants immunity for at least 6 months, since other than random anecdotes, there are no widespread reinfections.

That's the stuff we need to know!
I love how this virus has turned some of you into expert doctors and scientists for 2020.

Sorry about your covids @Mr. Asa , get well soon

Our government in its infinite wisdom has decided to do local closures if and when rates in that area get high enough. The city just down for us is now in full lockdown again, its a whopping 35minutes away by the huge motorway connecting it to the rest of thee country. What a smurt idea!

:case:

In another reality Jeremy Corbyn would be in charge, have sorted this shit out in week one, paid for failing businesses so they were owned by us and stopped risking lives ahead of the economy. I would very much like a socialist revolution in response to this shit.

so why is that slob saying y’all gotta pay
experiences vary widely because it's all different companies and billing and testing companies
but also, while the test itself may be free or may be mandated to be covered, associated costs may not be

as an example, labs usually charge one venipuncture fee any time a person gets blood taken (though some places I think bundle so there's only one vp fee in a day if multiple draws are done). the fee is usually pretty modest, like $35 or whatever, but it's in addition to whatever the tests themselves cost. the idea is it goes toward supplies used for collection, like needles, tourniquets, tubes, alcohol wipes, gauze, etc (because theoretically test costs go towards supplies used for actually testing, like reagents and machine maintenance and repair). so while COVID testing could be mandated to be covered, there can still be other fees that aren't.

similar to how folks here go to the hospital and despite trying to make sure they'll be covered and going in network, the anesthetist they had no control over picking out is out of network so they won't cover their fees.

it's also possible that the bill really shouldn't have gone through, because this shit is all very new and places are still figuring stuff out. and insurance companies are constantly writing up new directives & rules right now; I don't even do billing, but because part of my job involves working with health plans/insurance, my inbox is FULL of emails from them about updated guidelines etc

A daycare center here is shut down because of a Covid outbreak.

I hate it when people grab headlines like that and use it to say some something stupid like “See? Fauci doesn’t know shit!” as if we’ve always known everything about new diseases as soon as they appear, without empirical study. Jerkweasels.
