It's not really the same photon, it's a photon formed of the (much reduced through interactions) energy of a photon from tens of thousands of years ago.

The energy takes that long to diffuse from core to surface, but it isn't the same photon. There's absorption and admission of new bit of radiation. Even when it's just reflected, everything used to describe the radiation is different so I wouldn't consider it the same "thing" but that may be getting philosophical.
