All I want is McIntosh

I just wanted you to know that I hate you with the burning inferno of 10,000 suns.

I'll let you have my Bose shelf speakers if you wanna setup your own listening room. I'll help you hang the plywood and install your wood volume knobs.

No highs no lows. Must be Bose

I've had some Bose speakers (above mentioned) for about 13 years. They've worked and I didn't pay for them. I've spent more money on car audio equipment than home entertainment.
Makes sense though since I spend more time listening to music in my car.

Yes, I know. That's why I said some of its impressive and some is excessive.

*lots of snip*

 I think I found one of theac's buttons. :D

Yeah, I certainly can't argue with, well, any of that. I just think 'excessive' for wire stands is like 'unkind' for the holocaust. I'll admit the room looked very nice and I'm sure it sounds good, but that guy is, imo, immediately disqualified from ever having a valid opinion on any subject matter.

The comment about high/low amuses me - In my car I turn the treble +3, bass -1. In general though, my threshold for value stops when you have to flip A/B several times to kinda get a feel for how one is better. If it's undetectable in isolation, then :wtf:? (Not saying the silver wire was one of those cases, but you get the idea)

Also, lol @ sp'ange re: wood volume knobs. Those cracked me up almost as much as the CD pad to recover lost low bits.

I'll never complain about free stuff that can be used. To me that's the best ever.

I have to be pretty high to just want to sit in one spot and listen to music. Put a plasma in that room and we have a deal!

Your aural memory is only a few seconds. You may remember lyrics or melody, but any psychoacoustic properties such as timbre are extremely difficult to impossible to remember because human beings aren't built for doing so. If you consider music to not have a lot of importance, then I understand your position. If you do place reasonable value on such things, then it would really be impossible for you to pick the best product for you without A/B comparisons.

how does this compare with people who have perfect pitch? is it because they can produce any note on command or hear notes that are out of whack compared with thieir aural fingerprint for something (let's say an A flat) or have a perfected aural memory that's longer than most short term? this is something i've been tested for and have and embarrassingly have never really explored.

This was on Hydrogen Audio three years ago.

The second link has all about the construction. With what he spent on equipment he could've called up a record label and asked for non clipressed recordings or even properly mixed ones. He can potentially hear more information than is contained in the actual recordings he has (yes, even vinyl is pressed from DAT masters these days).

I'm more interested in recording/media technology than actual reproduction though so meh. If I want to hear "what it sounds like" I go to a concert, because that is what "it" sounds like. Studio recordings are sterile and spending big money to accurately reproduce recordings that contain information outside anyone's hearing range.

What is it with you people and wood too? It's birch plywood. You can buy it at home depot o_O
