I loved drive in movies as a kid. I grew up in a small town and the drive in movie theater was around until I hit junior high then Wal-Mart came crashing in and tore down the movie theater to erect it's own monument to crap!

Anywho, I read this article today. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nb/bay/news/4072561.html

I wish I had known a week ago, Drool and I were at the beach last weekend.

I miss the drive-in. Maybe I should open my own!

I saw ET at the drive in when I was a young lad. God they were fun, sticking people in the trunk so you don't have to pay, those were the days.

You know, in these days of modern cars with fold-down rear seats it's easier than ever to smuggle your human cargo into a drive-in.

There's one for sale near the 'ranch in NY :fly:

There are a couple in MA that operate, and there was one the next town up from us in NH that we still go to. That one rocks, has two screens and they show two movies on each every night for $15 a car. They 'allow' 6 people per car without extra charge, and as long as you're not an idiot you can get away with alcoholic libations

The drive in by my parent's is still operational. We've been to it a couple times since we got married.

Edit: By keeping it open (seasonally only), there are 4 movie options down there in the summer. One theater is old and not nice at all though, so really there are only 3 choices.

The Alamo Draft House in Austin does modified drive-ins. They call them rolling road shows. If your company or group is having a gathering, they bring out a truck with the screen on it and show a movie.

The Alamo Draft House is fantastic! http://www.drafthouse.com/
I assume there are places like this everywhere...not just Texas!
