Does anyone here run MythTV?

Yep, you can try lower and it will probably look just fine. I just like DVD quality since nero usually dosn't recode the video when I want to archive something to DVD. I've done VCD quality and it was acceptable on TV (a crap TV mind you)

Sage has a plugin that allows it to control your cable box via the serial port on the back. http://sourceforge.net/projects/multidcttuner/ You can also get an IRblaster or a USBUIRT and do the same thing. I imagine myth is similar. http://sage-community.org/index.cgi/wiki/SageRemotesLinks

I thought about trying Myth but I had issues with the system I was using, and Sage did all I wanted to do. I would try myth again but I have zero experience with command line linux so thats out. If you dont want to pay the cash check out GB-PVR and mediaportal as they are pretty decent nowadays as well.

holy shit. that USBUIRT looks to be the key to my only hangup making a HTPC with digital cable... sweet!

I just realized that this thing only has S-Video out, and I need component for my projector. Poop. Well I guess I can at least play with it...

Good luck finding one in any store locally.

it'd cost a helluva lot more locally.

you can also make your own.

but, if you have DVI, then it would be better to get a DVI to component adapter. Run ya about $25.

That Evo-Soft product looks promising but $45 for something that only supports one tuner at present is a waste of money. They keep saying they'll support more, but haven't been too informative lately. I wouldn't buy it until they actually support 2 or more tuners.

its free now. I dont know if they have opened their source, but they say its communityware now.
