Funny enough, that's why it's called a hysterecomy. Because it was a woman's surgury exclusively and women are hysterical. It was performed to make manic women more calm, in theory.

Incorrect, the greek for uterus is hystera, hence hysterectomy. The term hysterical applies to women exclusively because of this term and the common belief that it is hte uterus which causes females emotional imbalance.

It also means literally a suffering of the uterus (husterikos). Funny thing hysteresis means lagging behind :p
