I'm looking to buy a barcode scanner at work to streamline the asset auditing process.

I'm guessing some of you guys have had to do this with your IT departments before.

I'm looking for a scanner that is easy to use and has onboard memory so it doesn't require being tethered to a computer to record the codes.

We had some at my last job too. Same brand. I think Symbol dominates that market. Runs WinCE and all store data locally for download later.

Now that I think about it. Having windows on it would class it as a computer and it would not be allowed on the restricted floors..

we had scanners at UPS that scanned barcodes and saved them until being uploaded later... i always assumed these were proprietary made just for UPS though.

a solution definitely exists, might be cost prohibitive for the specifics you're asking though. most of what you find will be a handheld running windowsCE now... unless you can find an old palm pilot with a barcode attachment or something
