So I'm in the Bahamas for work and I've decided this place basically sucks. Everything is way overpriced (as expected being a tourist spot) and it's exactly like Florida (except the people here aren't in shape). I guess in my head I had it built up as somewhere super exotic. I'm hoping to find something interesting to do after I kill this 6 pack of the "Beer of the Bahamas"..... I hope my drunken shenanigans tonight and my adventures tomorrow change my mind. Worst case scenario I can pick up some old broad in the Casino and get a gum job. Anyone else been here and have suggestions?

Which island? I've only been to Grand Bahama, but I wouldn't go back.

The only thing I thought was truly relaxing and fun was renting a car and going to the opposite end of the island for some fresh caught fish and some beer in a little dive restaurant on the beach.

There were some decent snorkeling spots, but I don't remember where they were.

I'm on New Providence. I might take a hop to one of the smaller islands in hopes of an off the path find. New Providence is where all the main hotels/city is.

We've been to Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay. Both are nothing exciting and equally ridiculous. It is a nice island getaway for a weekend if you're into the beach thing and buying cheap shit from the shops. Only 50 miles off the coast of Florida. :)

I will admit listening to the local radio they have some kick ass PSAs. They are all completely old school about wearing your seat belt and not beating your kids.

I've been here since this afternoon and I'm already sick of people saying that.

Yeah it gets old. Liquor should be reasonably priced if you want to stock up.

On one of the islands down there one guy was griping at the taxi driver about being late and the driver only said, "We'z on island time here..." It's totally a laid back environment... very hard to slow down and become more 'old school' like you say.

If I want an Island getaway I'll just go to the Keys. Which I will be doing the 4th of July week if anyone is interested. We rented a house off of Duval street.

I'm pretty sure our rental car was stolen from the NYC metro area as well, since it had one of the ancient EZ-Pass mounts on the windshield

I always love that. I've been to some countries in the Middle East that have only been driving for around 10 years but yet most of the people drive a 1972 LTD or 1983 Civic. How the hell do these cars get to these places.
