Are there any music services that don't suck?

I've got this problem with music download services out there. They all suck in some irreconcilable way.

iTunes, Napster, etc. encode their songs at way too low a resolution for my tastes. When I can listen to it casually and tell its compressed, that sucks.

allofmp3 is illegal, even Russian authorities admit to that now.

musicgiants.com has lossless downloads, but their TOS and fees are a little retarded ($50 membership + $1.29 - $1.69/song).

Is there any music download service that doesn't suck?

Buy cd from walmart
rip/encode to your liking
return cd to walmart for refund
rinse and repeat

It's hard to believe in this day and age that stores still take back opened CDs. Even if they give you store credit instead of cash, they're still selling you every CD in stock for the price of one.

I've actually seen people returning fruit.

Not that it was used, but that's still pretty fucked up.
