I'm trying to create a database for a daily checklist on server health. I have the general thing all set up, but I'm trying to work on making it more efficient.

Basically, I have a date, server name, and certain aspects of health levels plus an action taken column.

What I need help with is setting it up, so that when I do a new day of entries, the entire server list is populated as well as the date, and everything else is manually filled out. The premise behind this is so that I can also get a report on a day previously entered so that the data can be verified.

I've been trying for a week to figure something out, but can't seem to get something working properly on that.

I currently have three tables. Servers (which just contains the names of the servers themselves) DailyCheck (which is all the information that gets populated) and Answers (which for the pulldown list for the health aspects is listed)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear sir, or madam,

Offtopic: Just wanted to know how many posts you're comfortable with before I make a total mockery of this thread with a bunch of obscure sex references because you used the word "Access" in the title.

Give me a number of posts and we will negotiate.

Looking forward to hearing from you, please respond,
-G

As soon as I get the answer I need you have full permission to trash this thread. Until then you are alloted one reference per every five helpful posts. Note that the helpful posts do not have to be yours.

Why don't you get a real tool that has reporting?

To whom it may concern,

I will respect your very reasonable request for 5 (five) helpful posts before spamming gay horse porn.

Enjoy your day, best of luck to you in your future endeavors involving "access".

Yours forever in love,

Daily checklist. Rather than scrolling down to the next entry in the table, I want to create a form or query or something that autopopulates the date and server name, but only shows the information for todays date.

I also want to be able to pull up the information for just a specific date for reporting references.

I still don't 'get' it. Do you need help creating a report? A form? A query? Maybe its cause I don't know Access too well and my questions will be useless...

You mean you want to make a record for each date? Then make a query to look up specific dates...

lol my first thought was "use a spreadsheet" too, but everyone complains when I suggest things >.> It'll also be more portable.

Damn, I don't seem to have Office installed on my computer. Have to do it on my laptop. hold up.

I too am getting a little confused here.

Send me the mdb (or accdb) file so I can get some understanding first hand of what you are trying to do.

What I need help with is creating a form that autopopulates the EntryDate and ServerName so I don't have to keep copying and pasting it for every day. The Date part is solved by just using the Date() function. What I need is a way to create a button or action that when activated, it populates the entire ServerName section of the form with a new record for each one.

Here's what the data looks like:

Since we have over 40 servers, manually populating the server list would become quite tedious.

Use excel. Filter for date needed. Done.

Still copying and pasting which is what I'm trying to avoid.

And looking into it, I still have to manually enter the date at least once each time too (unless there's a way to autopopulate the current date on a new row in Excel)

EDIT2: Found the Now() function in Excel
