Anti-Elitism Toward Gifted Kids Needs To Stop

I recently confronted the prospect of finishing that degree I started 7 years ago. Spending money in gigantic chunks sucks though. Sometimes I really, really wish we were a socialist country.

I'm hoping to finish a degree down here as soon as I get somewhat settled. That's my plan at least.

My only problem was handwriting. I always had really really bad grades in handwriting. The difference between honor roll and merit roll was the handwriting grade I received.

I got a B in social studdies.

Was grounded for 2 weeks, which meant that when I wasn't in school or doing chores, I was doing extra chores or confined to my room. I never had a tv or games or anything in my room. Those were for sleeping in.

I read enclyclopedias.

I love classes. I'd be a perpetual student if it paid.

Most people would, but that's not what I'm talking about.

The fact you must pay the price of a brand new Mercedes or you will most likely never be good enough in societys' eyes. Plus the fact that it does little to prepare you for the "real world" like it claims. It is a joke that we are forced to go through.

I have a writing class currently, maybe I'll do a paper on this topic.

When I was dancing between 6th and 7th grade my 7th grade social studies teacher had us do a family tree for a project. I have 30 cousins, don't ask me to count second cousins, or so on my moms side and my grandma on my moms side had 13 brothers and sisters. I gave him PART of mom's family tree and he told me to not even bother with the rest.

I never had video games. I brought home The Sword of Shannara from the school library on accident one time in 8th grade and my mom made me return it. So I read it anyways. I read Origin of the Species and Descent of Man just after the Terry Brooks books. I learned then to just not tell my parents what I was reading.

Oh I won't argue that. I don't have my engineering degree but if you put me in a room with a group of mechanical engineers fresh out of college I'd be able to pick on their drawings and also walk out to the machine shop and make the babble they deem necessary on prints. But I've been doing that since I was old enough to say Bridgeport.

But someone with a degree will get priority regardless of intelligence.

Who is forcing you to go to college?

Is it Zac?

One blink for yes, two blinks for no.

i was in remedial classes until i took some standardized tests and got bumped into gifted classes. i didnt even copy off of the kid next to me...

anyways, in the gifted classes we had to do alot of work, in the remedial classes we'd get cupcakes for reading a page out of a picture book... i wish i was stupid again :(

Whatever happened to picking up a trade by way of a mentor?

Society is because they say I don't have the proof that I can do certain things in my profession. You learn more on the job than in school anyways. :hs:

Yeah, you could always not go to college.

It's not the end of the world.

:fly:
I want to go this route, but going to school just in case my plans for the future fall though. sigh.
