Most people threw out all those "50 Hours Free!" CD-ROMs that were everywhere in the 90s, but a select few collectors made it their mission to hoard hundreds or thousands of the discs.

Oh fuck that is good news for me. I have an AOL coffee cup and a disc and mousepad set. I sometimes keep that shit because I sell eclectic shit to other peeps. I'd never "collect" that shit "psst, say kid, I got some MS Millenium Edition lighted ink pens,new in the box."

The AOL 3.5" floppies hurt more when you chucked them.

who knows. this was when CD-RWs were like 8 bucks a piece. I remember noticing the color was different on a couple of aol CDs (remember, RWs were that darker blue color)

That aligns with what i remember. Two cds in a jewel case, one of them was an RW pre-loaded with AOL stuff with an aol label

the time doesnt line up though, in 2004 i had already ditched optical media. I think the last time i used optical for storage was around 2003
