IF you read the article it is more believable. His house was spared, his shed was destroyed despite being mostly metal. DEpending on the winds the smoke might not get you. But as anyone who's experienced a real brushfire will tell you, it is hot as fuck even 50-70 feet away. He was incredibly lucky that day.
