Anyway, on the way home last night, the shifter lost 3 and 4. GM or Hurst, whoever manufactured the thing, decided that they should use a spring and cotter pin made as one unit to retain the shift rods. Now it has all 3 rods (1-2, 3-4, and reverse) retained with a conical washer and a regular cotter pin.

I'm not a fan of some of GM's cost saving methods.
