Your key is inside the crankcase?
And yeah, how the hell did the crank pulley bits end up in the oil sump?
The bottom of the timing cover is the top of the sump, so yeah, anything that falls in will end up at the bottom.
As for why, I can't begin to imagine why this was weak at this spot, but yeah.
You got hold of all of that and stuffed it in the car in the same day? kudos.
Took me 2 weeks to do calipers on both sides of the audi. I suck.
I went over to my friend's house and picked out a couple of reasonable looking harmonic balancers, took 'em home last night, and painted them.
I picked the timing cover seal and woodruff key up today on the way between the doctor's office and work (yay Autozone order for pickup!), and I had a brand new Aisin water pump in my spares pile.
Since the front of the engine only has one belt, running the water pump and the alternator, I was able to pull it apart fairly quickly yesterday afternoon. I had everything off and ready for the new stuff before going to bed last night, plus the radiator, which I took out in order to get a better visual on the shaft to get the woodruff key in without dropping it.
I wouldn't have had it done today except for the fact that it was rainy out, so masters was cancelled on account of lightning.
I buttoned it up just now and ran it over to the spray stalls to hose out the massive orgy of coolant I got all over. I'm certain I need to burp it once or twice, but the car got to the middle of the temperature scale and held there.
