Baby 4k tv. Anyone have it yet?

Vizio has declared 3D tv dead and will not be making any consumer level 2014 3D tvs. They will instead move focus to 4k.

Yeah, because streaming content like Netflix will look just great at 4k, and cable/satellite totally has the bandwidth to do even reasonably compressed 4k.

Must be that they had to embrace some kind of buzzword in order to get through the door at CES. If not 3D, then 4K, I guess.

Thats dumb, because true 4k, is the first resolution that can offer glasses-free 3d, which is what will make 3d actually viable.

How would that work? I'm genuinely curious.

to zrh this shit up, im gonna copy and paste from google

4k has enough resolution able to show two stereoscopic pictures at once and doing clever things with lenticular lenses to show them to each eye (although this means the resulting picture is only 1080p resolution).

Clever things is defined as fixed (rather than shifting) lenticular lenses that point the correct image at the sweet spot and alternate it.

So you'd have to have some kind of fixed lens apparatus on the front of the screen, in other words.
