Gotta be that you're putting them in the ground. Mine are never that big.
they were still growing too, no signs of crazing yet. I bet i can get an awesome harvest next year if i get em in on time rather than august

Old new chickens kept beating the hell out of new new chicken so I put her in a big cage of her own and got her a new new new chicken she gets along swimmingly with.
Now they can finish growing up together and present a united front against the establishment when I facilitate their invasion of the mainland in a month or so.

Got our first 2 eggs! Yipee!!
Funny, they are only about 80% as big as the fake, ceramic eggs we had in the boxes, but weigh more. The first egg outweighed them by 5 grams, second(44 g.) by 10 grams. Thick shells, I think they're getting enough calcium. Wife says they were delicious!

Not uncommon for them to slow down in winter but yours just started so they might keep going full tilt.
Have a system to date and rotate stock and a couple people to give away or sell the extra to.

Old timers rule of thumb says they'll last 6 weeks on the counter or 6 months in the fridge but that's if you do not wash them. Shells are porous and they're laid with a natural coating that's antibacterial and helps to seal the shell.
If you have a few that look unappetizingly shitty, or you just wash them for aesthetic reasons, a coating of mineral oil helps get the shelf life back.

Also as you start getting into older eggs, at least until you kinda figure out where the limits are with you and yours, not a bad idea to crack them in a separate little dish first so you can intercept a bad one before it ends up in the pan with the good ones.
Really no need for that if you're using stuff under a month old room temp or 3-4 months refrigerated though.

I have foolishly balanced the number of chickens to our consumption otherwise I was gonna get into some homesteader pioneer stuff like Glassing.
Basically storing them submerged in a bucket of water with the right amount of lye in it. Do it right and they'll last a year easy in a modern house, maybe up to 2 in a real root cellar, and the lye somehow doesn't get inside, just keeps that environment sterile at ambient temps. Supposed to taste fresh when you pull them out next year (after washing that stuff off of them so it don't drip in the pan).

Of course I would also leech my own lye from wood ashes.

And store all the piss to make black powder too.
