Food 2019 Amateur Farm and Garden thread

Got the first 300’ roll of 6’ wide weed mat down.

I don’t know why I thought one roll would be enough. :tard:

Also, came up with a neat, easy, reusable system to anchor the matting down.

2’ rebar driven through a 6” square piece of wood that has 4 screws sticking out the bottom to grip the weed mat.

Placed 4 along each 48’ seam.

Needed the 2’ rebar because the dirt is so fluffy now :D

What weed mat did you use?

I initially had the idea to put the stuff in the clearing that @APRIL made behind our house. She sorta has the idea to have a nice biergarten area back there. Then I realized that even we used plastic mulch, the trees will drop leaves, turn into soil, and we're right back to the same problem - only now we'd need to remove yards of weed barrier that has grown into the soil.

Guess we'll (she'll) just mow it.

Hardscape it with river rock, weed mat underneath.

Then you can use a leaf blower to keep it clear.
