I'd consider the tunnel to be a prototype, it's gonna have a few hairs. Does making the ride smooth involve tearing down the whole tunnel, or just a bit of finishing work? And is the smooth ride really the best way to evaluate said tunnel? How about what it cost to build the thing, etc?

Musk (as a person) is an unstable dick and he's probably wasting a pile of investors' money but honestly I'm happy with what he's accomplished, especially for electric cars.
There is a very distressing trend with Musk to jump to a running start, then to cut corners in order to meet deadlines because things were not fleshed out properly beforehand.
The tunnel's smoothness is a very blatant indicator of that. That leads me to then ask "what else is he skimping on?"

I don't like it.

lbr Musk's face isn't caked with mud and blood, he (under)pays other people to to that stuff for him, which also means it's not his actual life on the line when the corners he cuts come back to haunt him, just his wealth, of which he has such a ludicrous amount it's hardly a deterrent for his hubris

I've had mud and blood on my face, literally and figuratively. I worked damn hard to move away from that, but I'll be fucked if I forget where I came from and dont speak up against someone that fucks their workers over like he does and cuts corners like he does.

Additionally, Mr. Roosevelt, creator of the Square Deal, champion of the average American, breaker of trusts, and a leader of the Progressive Era would probably like to fight Musk over how he treats his people.

Elon Musk started his first business at 24. He's been putting his financial face and life into the mud ever since. Work is something you do for money, that other people are more willing to pay for than do themselves. Smart people usually strive to delegate to others for a variety of reasons. E.g. I've removed a lot of fiberglas insulation for others, for $$ -few years ago I paid someone else to do that dirty work for me.
More booing from spectors.

It was not a proof of concept because the concept was basically a subway that you could put your car on and have it after the ride is over, the reality was "buy $300+ worth of weird accessories that we have no clue how they will affect anything on the car, including safety, then go for a bumpy ride at slightly above average driving speeds and lose any advantage you may have gained by our weird elevator's restrictions." It was a proof that the boring machine could bore a tunnel, but that isnt really necessary. The concept was a revolution in how subways are designed, the reality was an embarrassment for how big a name Musk is.
There were no rails, the Tesla was riding on some sort of cast concrete floor that was not poured level, then they added a better version of bowling lane cheaters to keep it from hitting the wall.

In addition to that, he preyed upon a poor neighborhood, sidestepped any sort of environmental regs and impact studies, and generally behaved like a stereotypical developer in a bad movie starring some British guy as the developer and whoever in Hollywood is replacing Julia Roberts as the plucky-down-to-earth-housewife-who-has-nothing-to-lose-but-loves-her-neighborhood.
Yes, you got distracted by the articles and missed the POC. The entire point was to see if they could reduce the cost of building tunnels. It sure sounds like they did. The rest of it is just window dressing.

By making a smaller tunnel and ignoring any environmental regs and impact studies? No shit they are going to spend less on that. The first one is the key to that, that doesn't matter if you cant pull the rest of it together.

"Window dressing" isnt requiring a $50k entry tag in the form of a Tesla for public infrastructure.

Gravy for excellent writing. Riveting.

Now I need to find out if Tesla employees are abused or are working in unsafe conditions for unsatisfactory wages.

Why isn’t THAT being reported?

(My doctor just bought a Model X by the way)

Depends on your definition of each?
Musk has told people to not take vacations, there are allegations of human resources disasters, other things that wouldn't fly elsewhere.
