I owned a Buffet clarinet for a while. That register key which shifted up a fifth was just too much for my bass mind.
Also I read that Coltrane used a number 5 Reed.
So I tried to progress to a #2 and couldn't blow.
It just wasn't meant to be.

#5 gotta be like blowing on a 2x4.

I had enough embouchure to play a #3.

If I picked it up now a 1-1/2 would have my face numb and going pffffff out the corners of my mouth in like 2 minutes.

Clarinet is a horrible instrument. Dr. Sax was a great man, he fixed the problem.
Octave key!

It's not a 5th key or an octave key, it's a register key. Can basically start with all holes closed (lowest note), run everything up as high as that goes, then hit the register key (to switch from the lower register to the upper register, duh) and do it all again, basically doubling the range of the instrument.

Too hard. Bass.

Arent you in Houston?

People down here start wearing parkas and taking time to "warm up" their cars about the time you might consider donning a light jacket, or maybe just a flannel shirt but only if you're going to be outside and in the shade all day without performing any physical activity.
