Been contemplating forever upgrading my PC. Now I have a job that will allow me to. Should I go for this or not? What (if anything) should I change?

For reference, I've been running on an Athlon 64 3000+ with 1Gb of RAM since we last played games.

If you don't get at least a 128gb SSD for the primary drive, you will be not getting the best bang for your buck.

Also, I suspect you might be able to save a little money on the case if you look at a coolermaster. Otherwise, I like it.

Looks solid. The video card is the weak link there (if you'll be gaming), the processor and ram significantly outpace it

Yeah I have a WD SSD drive for the OS, and a couple 500Gb SATA drives laying around. Obviously the intent on this machine is for gaming, storage is not an issue as I will eventually be building that up (for HTPC purposes)

One of these is available tonight if I so decide to go. The other is not. One of these I pwn in FPS, the other, I flat out suck.

Gotta make the switch sometime.

Do you really have a pressing need to get a PC TONIGHT?

What games are out there, exclusive to PC, that are really worth the $1k investment? You could go out and get a $99 Xbox 360 to play from now until November (you could then get an XB1) and probably get a lot more bang for buck because the library of games in the used market is MASSIVE.

Don't need the PC tonight, but it's available for me to get. The XBox1 isn't out yet. I already have a 360, that's how I know I suck at FPS. Seeing as the last game I was actually able to remotely play was Battlefield II, I'd say I have a lot of catching up to do game-wise on a PC.

Oh and Farmville

battlefield 3 is worth playing on the PC. no monthly fees. cheap games on steam during their sales.

Notice I said "exclusive to PC". Whether or not a game is worth playing on one system or another is entirely subjective. Fly and I both played it on the xbox and it was just as fun there (if not more because we had more friends on XBL) as it would have been on PC.

K, you're worried about monthly fees? He was talking about spending $1,000 on a PC. How many YEARS of XBL does the difference in initial investment work out to?

XBL has the same sales going for their digital libraries. It's not like they don't price match that stuff, it's all pretty much market-rate. Plus, you have the used game market, which even the (currently) universally hated Xbox One will support.

Ghost,

you know those moments where you bash PC Master Race people for coming in and shitting all over a console thread...

Who's bashing?

He asked if he should buy a gaming PC, I argued that no, he shouldn't. Then I gave an entirely viable alternative that costs HALF. AS. MUCH.

Let me rephrase. I SUCK AT PLAYING FPS ON A CONSOLE, I JUST CAN'T USE CONTROLLERS. I NEED WASD + MOUSE TO BE EVEN REMOTELY COMPETENT. IT'S NO FUN WHEN I CAN'T EVER GET ANY BETTER.
