Has anyone done this? is it that much better than buying fresh each time you go to the store?

A buddy did this last year bought from a local farm. Think he paid 1k for a whole side. Lasted his family of 5 like 6 months.

I looked into this like a month ago. There are two places around here. The one with the best looking website never mailed me the menu. The other one has a really crappy website, but I thought they had a 1/2 for like $550. Maybe it was 1/4...

A few years ago, I bought half a cow for $3.50/lb. Ended up being about $650 taxes in, pretty much completely filled my deepfreeze, but it was worth it. Meat was damn good. Grass fed free range beef is awesome - the meat's darker and has better flavor than corn/grain fed supermarket beef.

If you can, try to get the whole brisket from the cow - usually it's made into ground beef. You'll probably have to trade away a few steaks/roasts to get it, but it's a good chunk of meat - excellent smoked, or made into pastrami.

So wait, are you proffering the opinion that smoked brisket might be delicious? :p
