Thread Why we need more than sequestration - government waste = big money

I presume many of those 500k now make up a good proportion of the lazy, workshy good-for-nothings who just want to live on everyone else's tax dollars?

I actually would imagine at least 60% of them are now contractors. Thats pretty much how things go these days.

The funny thing is that many of them probably were lazy good-for-nothings who were living on your tax dollars. They just had job titles to go with it.

You cannot "tune" for better mileage with E85, universally flex fuel vehicles get better mileage with gasoline than with E85. You would have to completely build an engine to take advantage of E85. You would have to shave the head and deck the block to increase compression, you'd have to replace the injectors, you would have to replace sensors and reprogram the engine's computer, you'd have to add a sensor that could figure the particular mix of ethanol:gasoline so that the timing and air-fuel tables could be adjusted properly to get the maximum burn.

You cannot compare the two, it's a completely different fuel, it's like comparing diesel and gasoline. You cannot run gasoline in a diesel engine (although I have seen old air-cooled VWs run diesel while the engine is hot). Ethanol does not make better mileage in a car designed for gasoline.

You're overthinking this. I'm not suggesting that you can put in a new chip and the thing will run better on E85. Engines are designed for gasoline and are therefore more efficient with it as a fuel. If it were the other way around, your MPG would improve for E85, and decrease with regular gasoline.

Yep, its all posturing.

Goddamnit, why do we as a people keep re-electing people who have a 12% approval rating.

I'm not overthinking it, you're using the wrong terminology. In auto-speak, "tune" means adjust the programming of the computer

You cannot "tune" an engine to make more power with E85, you have to build it to do so.

Not according to me and this it doesn't. So use the right terminology and we could have saved like 12 post trees. Geez!

government is already down 500k people since 2007

Its in its biggest decline since post WWII.

That said, it looks like this shit may actually happen unless congress pulls their heads out of their asses today and gets some last minute shit together

It's time different departments get their budgets under control. The whole "stimulus" was used to make up for the governments budget shortcomings, not to actually do anything above and beyond to stimulate anything. Leave them unchecked and shit like this happens.

Massive fucking inefficiency all around (i speak a govt employee). It unforutnately may be one of those things thats so fucked that it cant be fixed without a ground up wipe though, which will never happen.

Explain to me how you cannot tune an engine to make more power on E85? Conservative octane ratings are around 107, and I have personally seen turbo guys make much better numbers on it over regular gas.

On a modern distributorless engine (my firsthand experience was a 4cyl) you can do ridiculous things via a tune. My friend was able to advance timing much farther on ethanol.

Your argument only applies to automobiles running standard management.

If you could do it solely by computer parameters then the Big Three would not have such abysmal MPG numbers with E85.
You can do great things with a tune, but you cannot overcome mechanical limitations built into the engine.
