Bad yeast, or not allowing enough rising time?

gf has huge problems with rising too, her bread always turns out like a rock.

Havent figured it out yet, but i suspect chlorinated water from the tap is fucking with the yeast.

I think my dad's issue is softened water. It adds a lot of salt which retards fermentation. Does your gf have soft water?

What I learned in this thread:
Fly and Kiki are identical hand twins.

not sure. We're gonna try bottled water next time.

Mine works awesome with the exact same procedure, and my water is PH7 and no minerals of any kinds. ITs about as close to pure water as you can get.

I got mine on Amazon for $450 or something. The Pro 600.

I got an Artisan at Kohls a few years back (considerabley higher wattage than the base model). it was a xmas special, $10 back for every $50 you spent. It was on super sale for $249 (+ 5 $10 coupons!) = $199. It was a good year.

I like the tilt head instead of the lift one. I don't do 5 loaves of bread at a time, & it's a helluva lot easier for me to add ingredients by just tipping it back. Also, to me, it was easier to scrape the side by just tipping vs, the up/down of the more commercial unit. the big one seemed way beyond my needs. But that price on that link is rockstar!

Pro Tip: When buying things from Kohls, its not too hard to get about 50% off anything with some patience. First, wait for a 30% off coupon for Kohls card holders. They send them out regularly. Then, Chase's Ultimate Rewards cashback portal give 10% off on Kohls purchases. Buy gift cards through the portal. When you get the gift cards, go back through the portal again for another 10% off. Then use your 30% off coupon on stuff.
