Thread Article: Why Medical Bills Are Killing Us

I didn't move any target at all and don't know why you're pretending I did, but whatevs.

I don't really expect much more from many of you and it's sad. It's sad when you can't acknowlege other states of minds, life experiences and situations. It really is.

People come from all walks of life and backgrounds into the middle class. It's silly and shortsighted to think that they don't. Anyone HERE can do it, if they want to. The problem is that a lot of these people don't have good role models for success.

When my mom and dad got a divorce, my mom had fucking nothing to raise two kids on. She worked her ass off at multiple waitressing jobs making shit pay. While doing that, she started her own wallpapering business and made shit pay with that for quite a few years before things were stable enough that we weren't worried if we could eat. It sucked, probably 10x more for her, but I learned something. Work your ass off and you can get out of that shit.

And that's exactly what I did. I worked my ass off for many years in shit factory jobs making next to no money and living at home. When I realized that things weren't happening fast enough for me, I took out student loans and went to school. Then things turned around. Just like they can for everyone.

So its cute that you're on your high horse, petting and apologizing to the poor people in this country, but you really don't know anything. Your dad appears to have been quite successful in his life, and props to him. Thanks to him, I doubt you've had to struggle much. Instead, you patronize poor people by feeling bad for them. Go you.

Your outlook is a spoonfed fantasy. The world does not work in terms of 'oh if you work hard enough you can do x, y and z'. People are not born equal, nor do they have equal opportunities in life, nor are there even the right amount of places for everyone who wants to be in that position. How exactly do you explain that one away?.

really? I think it's exactly that attitude that costs so much.

this guy doesn't look like a whiner.

So, yellow people in Japan are privileged

White people in Russia are privileged.

It comes from being the majority, and sometimes founding, race for their country of origin.

Yet, yellow privileged doesn't exist in china. There it's all based on class. Same with India. To say 'whites are privileged' is a misnomer that ignores similar situations for different races in other parts of the world.

Basically, you lack the correct worldview to make that statement. When you consider the racial diversity of the US compared with other nations, you might gain a better perspective on the issue.

We're talking about the US sweetie, not china. And being male is an even bigger privilege in China btw, skin colour aside. There's a reason infanticide of baby girls was/is widespread.

Thanks for the condescention as usual but it doesn't wash when your fellow countrymen deny what's in front of their faces. Sorry.

This isn't the 60's nme, black people have more opportunities than whites to go to college and better themselves. Scholarships are everywhere for the underprivileged. I know many who have taken full advantage of it themselves and have gone from their subculture of single parent homes in the ghetto where they were picked on for studying and getting good grades when all of their peers wanted to party like rappers and planned on dying some heroic gangster death by the time they hit 20. Plenty of white people are apart of this 'ghetto' subculture, and plenty of black people have moved over to the suburban 'white' culture. In the past 20 years it's become really blended.

April is right, most are where they are because they don't want to work, or make bad financial decisions.

I grew up solidly middle class, but most people who went to college (with me anyways) worked part time and were able to live off of it, not comfortably but none of us starved. We all had roommates to split living expenses, were able to afford our vehicles or whatever else we needed, and we were still able to put in 20-25 hours a week working while going to class however many hours a week and spending the rest of the time studying or doing homework. I know I never got my daddy's credit card or any help from my parents, moved out a month after high school and never moved back, also took summer classes so I never got the summer breaks. We all made it not just in the classroom, but outside of it too, and all it took was some hard work and dedication.

And not having kids in our teens.

I have tons of kids running around out there. I just don't pay for them since I put 'aspiring rapper' as my job title.

the Gov't pays $16 per fucking muffin in a conference room. How much do you think they'll be helping the healthcare with that kind of markup?

Of course that means we should all just give up and no effort should be made at all. Sound logic. GOD DAMNED MUFFINS! *shakes fist*

Am I denying privilege? Am I pretending everyone can get where they want in life? Am I pretend things are fair or unbiased?

This is what we are discussing, and what many of you are denying.

People should contribute to society, not be leeches. Everyone can get to a point where they can contribute. If nobody gets to that point, civilizations collapses and blablabla.

Thanks.

I can't be bothered with discussing it any longer though, people believing in this 'american dream' myth is depressing as fuck, and I'm already in a bad mood anyway.

Its like Americans are a giant Wall.jpeg they are ALL stupid (xcept @GH0ST ) they have no concept of what is outside of their righteous bubble. No wonder everyone hates them. Lol.

Perhaps you should study Economics 101. Unemployment is necessary for a healthy society and economy.

And your point seems a bit off topic, people can contribute but that doesn't mean they're in a position where they're stable, comfortable or don't need handouts. People pay tax but with the other hand they need handouts for food or childcare etc.

I don't see the giants hearts of Canadians or Columbians coming up in here taking care of our poor.

I just feel this needs to be said again. If people here felt that the government could improve inefficiencies and make healthcare better, not one person would be against it (generally speaking of course). But taking the same shitty, expensive system, layering even more government on top of that, and giving it to people for free - well people don't want that crap.

However, we ALL want healthcare reform. The problem we have is twofold. One, corporations are running this joint and they don't want efficient. Second, there are tons of working, effective models all over the world. But we have this stupid AMERICA FUCK YEAH attitude people that would be disgusted if they found we were modeling our healthcare after another country.

Put those two together and you have the most expensive and least effective healthcare system (per dollar) that the universe has ever seen.
