Okay guys, I've got a google redirect virus. Basically what this thing is

The Google redirect virus prevents you from viewing the Web pages that you want to see on your browser. The virus can cause all types of problems. When you're browsing the Internet, the virus will redirect your page requests to fake websites and display fake errors on your computer screen. It's also prone to infect browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. You can manually remove the Google redirect virus if your computer is infected.

Nothing is working right now and I need to do a research paper. HELP :(

Anti-Virus Software: Kaspersky

Had it recently. Get spybot search an destroy and malware bytes. Run em, see if it fixes it.

I also got the hilarious metropolitan police 'we want £100 because you've watched beast porn' virus. Very amusing imagining how other people react to such things.

Check your proxy settings, see if they are pointing to an actual address. Typical home user normally won't be.

You might want to search specifically for some rootkit scanners, too. URL redirects seem to be a common symptom of typical rootkit infection.

TDSSKiller is another good tool to run.
Followed up by Malwarebytes.
Followed up by any number of free online antivirus scanners. I like eSet's online antivirus scanner, Kaspersky, and Microsoft.

Online AV takes soooooo fucking long. Or at least it did the last time I tried it a few years ago.

Nope they're all pretty fast now. It usually takes under an hour (or less than 30 minutes for some) to scan a computer (using quick scan feature, not full scans). Most of them install the scanner program to your PC and go online to grab updates. Pretty nice now compared to what you are used to (I remember that, and yes they were slow). I forgot to mention I also use Trendmicro Housecall scanner. Every AV product will find different pieces of malware so it is best to run several scanners. Other choice is to simply reinstall Windows.

Linux is the most inane bullshit OS I've ever seen. Well the Ubuntu release is anyway. Can't imagine the other ones being much different.

There's just far too much bullshit to go through to get it to run like Windows. Plus it's ugly as hell.

Maybe in another 10 years they might figure their shit out.
