Well there's no easy way to say it. So my wife was having some problems with her poop. We got is checked out, she had a colonoscopy, and she's been diagnosed with colon cancer. It's pretty fucked up to hear that, let me tell you. The good news is that it's a polyp that they should be able to remove with surgery. We'll meet the surgeon next week and schedule a date for her. Basically, after they cut out a piece of her colon, they examine it to see what stage it is, using that to determine what course of action to go to from there, ie chemo/radiation. It's likely to be surgery only, and that's what we're hoping for. My wife is in pretty good spirits, and we've had a lot of support from close friends and family. Her mom took it really bad, as my father in law goes in for cancer surgery this week. My son doesn't know anything yet, other than mommy has a sore tummy. I imagine that's going to be a difficult conversation.

So waw, I guess your little colon seed problem just got one upped...your move.

Anyhow, please send us some good vibes, we'd really appreciate it.

Hug your loved ones every day.

I'm so sorry to hear that tre. I'm sure she'll be just fine, it's very good they caught it in what could be an early stage so stay positive.

Also you can gloat about not paying any bills for the surgery, commie.

Send my love to your beautiful wife

Do you have to tell the kid at this point? Hopefully everything goes well and he can find out after the fact.

My wife will be in the hospital for about a week, then recovering at home for 4-6 weeks, so we kind of have to tell him something. I don't think you can really explain cancer to a five year old. So he'll just know that mommy is sick but the doctors are making her better.

I'd also be interested in seeing how quickly this would all happen in the US, between the colonoscopy, CT scan and surgery.

thanks for the good words guys.

It depends on severity and whole bunch of stuff. My mom had asthma diagnosis so they gave her colonoscopy/biopsy same week (apparently it's some sort of tip off) then removed them the following week. Then they did colonoscopys like every 4 months for years. The CT scan and extended hospital stay seem weird but my mom always pushed for outpatient stuff because hated sitting around.

There really was never question of how "fast" stuff got done, the doctor decides what happens when.

Itd be done asap here, but she would only spend a few days at most in the hospital before getting booted out for home recovery. ;)

:(

Man, I hate doctors.

Don't hate doctors. My father in law hates doctors, so he didn't tell anyone that he was having problems urinating for about a year. It was prostate cancer.

This is what he's having done tomorrow:

Removal of:
- prostate gland
- seminal vesicles
- the part of the urethra that passed through the prostate
- maybe some lymph nodes
- and very likely the nerves that create an erection are cut

Go to doctors. Take care of yourselves.

I cant even imagine what you and your family are going through
Id be a complete mess

ya, it's been a pretty brutal month. A very good friend of my wife works in the cancer center of our hospital, and she's been amazing. She's got all the nurses looking out for us, and she's really explained everything to us really well. It's been so helpful. Our family doctor gave us his home phone number and told us to call anytime. Having awesome people around you really, really helps get through times like these.

sorry to hear it man, that totally blows. stay positive and help her kick this thing's ass. no pun intended. <3
