Thread The Golf Thread.

Taylormade demo day was yesterday. Loved the R11 irons with the KBS shafts. The TP cavity backs were pretty good. The TP blades were very nice, but wow the heads are small. For a blade they were amazingly forgiving, although they may be a little too much of a players club for me now. The white R11 and Superfast drivers are obnoxious. I couldn't hit them for shit either. I think the rep that was there could sense that I thought his equipment wasn't going to work for me. I'm looking forward to fucking around with the Callaway stuff next saturday.

I played a round of golf which was a combination of great and shitty. I played with three guys whose handicaps when added together did not equal mine. One of them shot 68, another shot 71, and the last guy shot a relatively pitiful 78. I managed to shoot 84 with four triple bogeys. Ridiculous.

For some reason I really want to play golf now

Played golf yesterday with the back to back manoa cup champion and star golfer for Oregon State. He shot 70 in torrential rain and 50 mph winds. I shot 88. Couldn't stand any bags up. Balls were blown off the greens. Walking by the sandtraps was dangerous, because your entire body would be sandblasted. :fly: The flag stick on the #17 green snapped in half too.

FYI for the equipment whores out there, he's using the Nike combo irons Project X 6.5 shafts, Nike Victory wedges, Nike Victory Red Driver and woods. Didn't see the shafts. I assume they are as stiff as 2x4s.

He's also got one of those fatty putter grips on his Odyssey putter. I asked him about it and he says his results may not be any better than using a normal grip but once he switched he can't go back. Normal grips don't feel right.

The Nike driver makes the ugliest sound you've ever heard. We were teasing him about it. It has that thud sound that clubs normally make when you hit them on the very top of the crown.

merry xmas to me! I took out the trash down to the basement and sitting next to the bin was 4 cartons of brand new golf balls. 2 15 packs and 2 12 packs. pinnacles and titleists. 54 new golf balls! :D

I am still playing regularly, although a slough of car problems have superseded my weekday practice sessions. I've retired my Taylormade driver until further notice. Right now I'm using a Titleist 910D3 which a friend loaned to me. It sure is easier to hit. Might not be as long, but I don't have to swing hard to get good results. Where my old driver was averaging 3 fairways/round, I hit 6 this last time out. Judging driver accuracy by fairways hit on my home course is very difficult. The fairways are narrow and tilted, so it's common to strike a ball down the middle and end up in the left rough.

So I'm understanding why Titleist players are such club snobs. The equipment is amazing. I've been shopping one for myself, but the prices are steep. $450 MSRP, and I've seen them as low as $330. Barf.
