Thread Assassinating US Citizens

Unless he renounced his citizenship? No.

Could it have been that hard for them to hold a trial for him in absentia and find him guilty of something (ZRH?)??? This is just a fucking slap in the face.

he committed treason. that's a crime that carries the death penalty

when someone considered armed and dangerous gets shot fleeing from the cops, should the cops be charged? They are simply looking out for public safety by not letting him get away again. It's not like the dude was executed while in captivity.

I'll disagree with you on that too. And, again, my opinion on this, too, is the only one that I give two fucks about.

How about common sense and the rule of law? Do you really think its a good idea for this country to be run simply by someone's opinion? Be honest for just a second here man.

Completely different. Cops can't shoot unless they feel they are in imminent danger from the person.

I think the difference is premeditation. When the cops kill an armed person fleeing from them or engaged in battle with them it's a spur of the moment thing. I don't know of very many cops that set out at the beginning of the day to kill someone specific because they have the potential to do harm or even have already done harm. In that instance, the cops set out to arrest said person, not kill them.

No. But the country is not being run on my 'opinion'.

We have tasked the government to look out for the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness for the people of the united states. If they have to take an action like this to protect the greater good, against a person who wishes death & destruction on many people because of ideology, who actively partakes in actions of the same, who heads a known terrorist organization... Allowing him to hide behind his 'citizenship' while operating in a foreign country is stupid.

What is the difference between killing this guy and Bin Laden, besides the question of 'citizenship'?

Think he would have surrendered if we knocked on his door with arrest warrant? its not like this dude was killed in a florida suburb, he was killed in a hostile country.

I think it's very similiar to the cop analogy, they can use deadly force to stop a threat from escaping, even if he isnt immediatly threatening a cop.

Maybe the drone missile was aimed at his knee and accidentally blew up his entire house instead.

Are there actions a U.S. citizen could take that would forfeit rights? I guess that's the question. And who decides.

That's a hell of a slippery slope in a society that constantly struggles with interpretation of written law.

I'm sure when they found him someone made the call, risk commando lifes to attempt a capture or drop a bomb before he gets away again. Same call would be made for a bank robber holed up in a bank or something. When you are actively committing a crime and not surrendering for your fair trial, expect to get shot. Or bombed.

I agree, but when you are in yemen standing in a group of terrorists, I don't think you can complain when a us bomb gets dropped on you.

Had he been a casualty then so be it. Yet before that bomb was dropped, he was on a list of people the president wants assassinated. Obama should be indicted for this.

edit:

TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 115 > § 2381

§ 2381. TREASON

Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

it's not an automatic death sentence.
