Thread This just in! Cats suck massholes. Film @ 11.

So Dan and I have exhausted pretty much all of our options. We have one more cat behaviorist that is going to give us advice, but I think we are going to have to put our Fluffy to sleep before the arrival of Samantha. Nobody seems to think it is a good idea to keep her and the baby at the same time. She attacks people at random and we don't know what to do. For Dan and I she is an amazing pet. She's loving and cute and cuddly, but she's not like that to other people. There's no way to know what she will be like around an infant, but it might not be worth the risk. She's given people bad enough injuries that they needed stitches. I'm so sad about the prospect of killing this loving animal but I don't know what else to do with her. I haven't found anyone who is willing to have the patience to care for her like we have and none of the shelters will take her. Every time I think about it I cry. Fluffy used to be my mother's cat and losing her is like losing a piece of my mom in a strange way. I hate this.

I'm with the others on this ... wait & see how things go.

Cat's can adapt to new things in their home environment, baby's smell like mum & dad & the cat will know its suppose to be on guard of its new human.

Just monitor the activity of the cat around your new baby.

An important thing to do with a pet when you have a new baby in the house is spend at least an hour or so with the cat when you have time to sit back & relax. Give personal attention only to the cat by patting, playing with or giving treats & talking to the cat. This shows the cat it's not forgotten or being ignored, this will help prevent the cat from acting out & being bad to get your attention.

I know a new baby will make you busy as heck & you won't really have much personal time ... but even if you have a chance to lie down to have a short nap, call the cat to your side, pet her & relate to her & then snooze with her. This is a good step to showing her she is wanted & loved to keep her happy.

Yeah, we'll be doing a lot of that. We have 4 cats total. It's going to be interesting to see how they all react.

Yeah, they are pretty much hanging around & watch all activity around the baby especially with family & friends coming to see the baby.

Cats are smart, my sisters cat wouldn't leave her side when my sister was home dying of cancer. The cat stayed with her all the time except to have a quick dish of food & go to the litter. The cat made a big fuss over the nurses & home care people who had to give meds or bathe my sister & tend to her.

The cat guarded her human.

Sounds more like it just hung around her human more than guarded it. I mean really, what's a cat going to stop?
